2023 OGS Conference ~ In Our Backyard!

The 2023 OGS Conference will be held 26-29 April at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. This is a wonderful opportunity to attend an annual OGS conference without having to travel a long distance!

"Early Bird" registration (with a $40 discount) ends on Friday, 17 March 2023. Regular registration (both online and by mail) ends on Friday, 14 April 2023.  No registrations will be processed after 14 April. If mailing your registration, make sure it arrives at OGS no later than 14 April.

OGS members also receive a registration discount of $40 compared to non-members. This is in addition to the $40 "Early Bird" discount, if you register on or before 17 March. Be sure to log in to the OGS website before registering for the conference.

If you are not an OGS member and want to join in order to receive the discounted registration cost, go to the OGS website, pay for your membership, and log in to the website before registering for the conference. In addition to the registration discount, you will have a full year of access to the OGS website and the contents that are reserved for members only! Click here to join OGS.

A new Wi-Fi/internet system has been installed at the Firelands Historical Society Museum and the Laning-Young Research Library.

We thank Tim and his team at Rzlynt Business IT Services in Norwalk who donated their labor for this project, which will make the presentation of our Zoom meetings and classes much easier and more reliable. 
You can connect wirelessly to the Internet by using your laptop computer, any mobile device, or our in-house computer.

Laning-Young Research Library Update
     Effective on Tuesday, 1 June 2021, all COVID restrictions will be removed and there will be no limit for the number of visitors who can be in the library at one time. We ask that visitors be responsible for themselves. Masks will not be required, but they will be available (along with hand sanitizer) for those who are more comfortable using them.

LIBRARY HOURS:
  • Thursday thru Sunday, 11 am to 3 pm.  It is no longer necessary to reserve a time spot in advance. You can come anytime during the hours open.
  • Monday thru Wednesday: The Library is closed. Appointments will be taken (especially for out-of-town visitors), if one of these days is the only time they can come. Email us in advance at: huroncoogs@gmail.com. We will answer you by email, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

     The Huron County website on OHGenWeb on Rootsweb is back online!  All of the information that has been there since 2005 is still there!  Please Note: Some of the information on this site is out-dated, but it does contain a lot of information about Huron County history and genealogy that is not available elsewhere.

Chapter Meetings
​        • All regular meetings are on the 4th Monday of each month at 7:00 pm.
        • April meeting is the Annual Awards Dinner.
        • No meeting in December.

     All meetings are held at the Firelands Historical Society Meeting Room, 9 Case Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio, unless otherwise announced, and are open to the public.
