RESEARCH COMMITTEE GUIDELINES
The Research Committee of the Firelands Genealogical Society (Huron County Chapter OGS) is comprised of Chapter members who, while not certified genealogists, are experienced in genealogical research in Huron County and Erie County, Ohio.  To facilitate the duties of the researchers, the Executive Committee has formulated the following instructions and guidelines.
FREE ONE-HOUR RESEARCH
For both members and non-members, a Research Committee member will spend one hour researching Huron County and Erie County publications pertaining to the time period requested.  For members, there will be no fee for this service other than the actual costs incurred for photocopies.

For non-members, we ask you to make a monetary donation to our chapter which can be paid by credit card, using one of the "Donation" items in our Online Store. A credit card processing fee will be added to your donation. Or, you may mail a check with your query to the Chapter. Please make your check payable to Firelands Genealogical Society and put "Research Donation" on the memo line. If you wish to become a member instead, the one hour will be free. Details about membership are on our Membership page.

Each one-hour query should be as specific as possible, including time period, township (if known), and only one or two ancestral names.
EXTENSIVE RESEARCH
For both members and non-members, Research Committee members are available to perform more extensive and involved research at the Huron County Courthouse, Erie County Courthouse, Huron County and Erie County libraries, the Laning-Young Research Center and, as their time permits, at other Huron County and Erie County locations. This service is available at $20.00 per hour, plus actual costs incurred for photocopies.

You will be notified of the costs you owe after your research has been completed. This payment must be made by check made payable to: Firelands Genealogical Society and mailed to: Firelands Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 923, Norwalk, Ohio 44857-0923. The Chapter is unable to accept checks made payable to individual members.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR QUERY
Queries may be sent to the Chapter by e-mail or by regular mail. If photocopies are to be mailed, inquirers must send a self-addressed, stamped envelope with their query.

Requests will be answered in the order received. Unfortunately, the researchers will be unable to undertake analysis or organization of data for any request.

All initial correspondence can be e-mailed to:
[email protected], or mailed to: Firelands Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 923, Norwalk, Ohio 44857-0923.
