Born @1842 in Chemung County, New York, died May 28, 1904, Cleveland, Ohio.
The following is from a sworn statement, dated 21 April 1882, from his pension records:
Preceding my enlistment into the service of the United States on the 20th day of February 1865, I resided in the following places: viz. New London and Clarksfield in Huron County state of Ohio, and Rochester, Lorain County, Ohio. And that my occupation has been that of a foremen of work hands since my discharge but before that a farm laborer. Since my discharge from said service on the 24th Day of August 1865, I have resided in New London, Huron County, Ohio, fall of 1865 to spring of 1866. In Clarksfield, Huron County, Ohio from spring 1866 to spring of 1867. Then moved to Clear Lake township, Stueben County, Indiana, lived there till about November 1867. Then in November 1867 moved to South Camden, Hillsdale County, Michigan. There 18 months to April 1869. My occupation has been that of a foreman managing gangs of men building rail roads and other work. From South Camden, Hillsdale County, Michigan moved to Montgomery, Hillsdale County, Michigan. There about two and a half years. Then moved to Montpelier, Williams County, Ohio in 1872. Then to Florence, Erie County, Ohio January 5, 1873. There about 25 months. Then 1875 to Wakeman, Huron County, Ohio. Remained until 1877 and then moved to Clarksfield, Huron County, Ohio. There about 3 years. Then to Bellevue, Huron County, Ohio 1881. Then moved to Bolivar, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Then back to Clarksfield, Huron County, Ohio. Then to New London, Huron County, Ohio. Then to Spencer, Medina County, Ohio 1884. Then to said New London, where I continued to remain.
In another sworn statement in 1898 he states:
I married Althea Webb in Clarksfield, Ohio on the 24th day of September 1861. We had the following children: Adda, born 25 of May 1862, Arthur born March 23, 1864, Horris E. born April 5, 1868, Irvie E. born February 18, 1880. My wife Althea Webb Houghtlen died June 20, 1889 at New London, Huron County, Ohio.
1894 statement:
I then married Margaret Alexander April 29, 1890 at Cleveland, Ohio.
