Remeley Family of Peru Township

Ancestor Story by Ruth A. Gies Reed
First Families of Huron County Member #1
Lorenz "Lawrence" and Josephine (Ritter) Remeley, of Remelle Rd., Peru Twp., Huron County, came to America in 1847.  Joseph was born 10 January 1791 in Baden, Germany and was a glazier by trade.  Their ten children were all born in Baden.  Five girls and one son reached maturity and came to America with their parents.  They were:  Joseph, who married Theres Gies; Josephine, who married Anthony Fischer; Stephany, who married Andreas Fischer; Blondina, who married Michael Gies; Pauline, who married Joseph Fry; and Frances, who married Martin Ruff.

They lived on their 50 acre farm into their old age.  Lorenz died on 7 October 1870, and Josephine died on 6 March 1876.  They are buried in the St. Paul's Cemetery in Norwalk, Ohio, along with their son and his family. Their name is no longer seen as their only son Joseph had two sons.  One grandson never married and the other only had one daughter, Amelia, who never married.

Josephine Fischer died along with her triplet newborn daughters due to complications of the birth.  The remaining daughters all lived long productive lives.
