Adolphus M. and Elethear (COLE) GREEN planted a seven-generation family tree in Huron County when they moved from New York to Ohio. According to family records, Adolphus GREEN was born in New Ashford, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, on 29 October 1793, to Chaffee Bowen Green and his wife, Hannah Cable. Adolphus' first wife, Sally RODERICK, died about 1820. Adolphus then married Elethear COLE on 15 March 1821. She was born in Kingsbury, Washington County, New York, in 1800. They lived in Rush township, Monroe County, New York, from about 1821 to 1823, and in Danville, Steuben County, New York, from 1824 to 1830. By 1831, they resided in Greenwich Township, Huron County, Ohio.
There were four sons and nine daughters in the GREEN family. The oldest son, Willard K., was born May 1818, in Washington County, New York. Mason and Miles were born in Monroe County, New York. Mason was born on 15 January 1822. In 1845, he married Mary Anna SHELDON, a Quaker, and daughter of David WILKINSON and Julia (RHODES) SHELDON. Reuben, the youngest son, was born about 1844 in Greenwich Township, Huron County, Ohio.
The oldest daughter, Sarah Agnes (Sally), was born 23 September 1824, in Danville, Steuben County, New York. She married Asahel A. ABBOTT, son of John and Clarrisa (SIZER) ABBOTT of Greenwich Township, Huron County, Ohio. Daughters, Matilda, Elizabeth, and Lucinda GREEN were all born in Danville, New York. Daughters, Almira, Clarissa, Caroline, Adaline, and Emeline GREEN were born in Greenwich Township, Huron County, Ohio.
In 1846, Huron county land records show they sold their land in Greenwich Township, to Philena GRIFFIN. The land is located at the corner of State Route 13 and Alpha Road. Adolphus and Elethear relocated to Marion Township, Livingston County, Michigan. Mason and Willard stayed in Ohio.
Two of their sons were Civil War soldiers. Mason was a Corporal in the 166th Regiment, Company C, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He died on 12 April 1889, in Ottokee, Fulton County, Ohio. Miles was in the 10th Calvary, Co. K, Michigan. He died during the war on 18 January 1864, of typhoid fever, and is buried at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County, Kentucky.
Adolphus GREEN died on 28 June 1869, and Elethear died on 12 Feb. 1867. Livingston County, Michigan, cemetery records list them as buried in GREEN cemetery, Marion Township. Their daughter Sally, and her husband, Asahel ABBOTT, are also buried there. Adolphus GREEN’S estate record recorded in 1869 list the heirs as Willard and Mason GREEN who reside in Ohio, Mrs. Asahel (Sally) ABBOTT, Mrs. Jonathan (Adaline) DAVIS, Mrs. Simon P. (Lucinda) KUHN, Mrs. Emeline BARBER, Reuben GREEN, and heirs of Milo GREEN who reside in Livingston County, Michigan, and others in Ingham County, Michigan.
The seven generation GREEN family tree continues to grow deep roots in Ohio. After 168 years, beginning in 1831 and continuing into the year 2000, descendants of Adolphus and Elethear GREEN and their son, Mason, still reside in Huron County, Ohio.
