WILLIAM HOWARD, the son of John Howard, was born December 15, 1795, in New Jersey. He married MARGARET SNYDER, the daughter of Henry Snyder, on October 1, 1825. MARGARET was born in New Jersey on March 31, 1804. Two daughters were born to the couple, ANN MARIE HOWARD and ALMARINDA HOWARD. ANN MARIE was born on November 3,1826, and died February 8,1841. She is buried in the Hoyt Cemetery in Huron County, Ohio. ALMARINDA HOWARD was born in Kingwood, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, on August 22,1831. The family left New Jersey and came to Huron County when ALMARINDA was a young child. MARGARET died April 17, 1864, and is buried beside her daughter in Hoyt Cemetery. The date and place of WILLIAM's death is unknown. In 1863, WILLIAM bought land in North Fairfield from his son-in-law, Thomas Smith. Since he is not listed on the 1870 census of Huron County nor in the Death Index 1867-1908, he probably died between 1863 and 1870. I am still searching for documentation of his death.
On September 22, 1851, ALMARINDA HOWARD married Thomas Smith. Rev. H. Dubois performed the wedding, which took place at the residence of her father. Thomas was born in Seneca County, New York, on June 28, 1822. He came to Ohio when young and became a resident of Huron County. Thomas Smith was engaged in farming and furniture manufacturing. For a number of years, Thomas Smith also served as postmaster in the village of North Fairfield. 1* ALMARINDA and Thomas had three daughters and one son, who were born in Huron County, Ohio. Amelia Howard Smith was born December 31, 1852, at Fairfield. She married Stephen M. Young in June 1875. Amelia died on April 28, 1876, at Bucyrus, Ohio. Ida Lorena Smith was born June 1, 1856, and died September 6, 1856. 2* William Howard Smith was born March 15, 1858, and died November 23, 1931. Lufannie Smith was born April 2, 1867. She married Emanuel Benjamin Shifley on September 7, 1893, in Granville, Licking County, Ohio. She died in Owensboro, Kentucky, on April 5, 1941
About 1874, Thomas and ALMARINDA, with their family, moved from Huron County to Bucyrus, Ohio. They remained there for four years and then moved to Granville, Ohio. After nine years in Granville, they returned to Bucyrus. Thomas died there on November 8, 1891. ALMARINDA died in Granville, Ohio, at the home of her son, on November 12, 1892. Both ALMARINDA and Thomas are buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Bucyrus, Ohio.
