1795 1800
They were pilgrims found and true, Gave their best for each of you; Happy hearts to God entrusted, Did their best as He requested. Now their memory do we cherish -- Let it live and never perish. |
The year 1795 should hold for us memories dear to the heart of all, for on January 22, 1795, at Ashtenbauch, Germany, Michael Phillips, to whose memory this little booklet is dedicated, was born
Alsaice Lorraine, a city always renowned but today held in the greatest of esteem because of the recent world war, was the birthplace of Ave Rosena Sheperda, whose advent was January 1, 1800.
Glorious childhood days of these two pilgrims were spent in their native country. Cherishing hope, with love and devotion, they were united in marriage, the exact date of which can not be learned.
Five Children, Michael Jr., John, Stephen, Helen, and Joseph, were born of this union, in the country close to the hearts of their parents. The year 1837 marks the coming of this family to America, at which time they located in Peru, Peru Township, Huron County, Ohio. After remaining here three years they moved to Norwich Township, locating on a farm now owned by Joseph Claus. Three children Aloysius, Mary Ann, and Rosena, were born in America.
The Autumn of 1877 brought deep sorrow to this family, for on Sept. 1, 1877, the loving Father was called to his reward, at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 9 days, at the home of his son Joseph Phillips, Norwich Township. The remains of this loved one rests in St. Sebastian’s Cemetery, Bismark, Ohio.
Bleak, cold February brought death to the affectionate Mother, who on February 25th, 1888, at the home of her son Aloysius, entered the realms of eternal happiness, at the age of 88 years, 1 month, and 24 days. Her remains rest in St Mary’s Cemetery, Reedtown, Seneca Co., Ohio.
