Eri MESNARD, my great-great-great grandfather, was born 16 October 1797, in Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut, to Andrew and Mary (HOYT) MESNARD. He moved with his father's family to Saratoga County, New York, in 1806, and then to Onondaga County, New York, in 1818. He married first Lucy HILL in 1826 and had a son and a daughter. Lucy died in 1830. Eri married his second wife, Harriet BAKER on 11 June 1835 in Onondaga County, New York. She was the daughter of Seth and Anna (HAYDEN) BAKER and born on 17 November 1805.
Eri and Harriet MESNARD lived in Ithaca, New York, until 1836, where Eri was employed as a civil engineer for the Ithaca and Owego Railroad. In 1836, Eri moved his family to Fairfield Twp., Huron County, Ohio. He was county surveyor of Huron County for 14 years as well as a farmer.
Eri and Harriet had five children: Ellen Maria, Luther Baker, Mary Ann, Celetia, and Eri B. MESNARD.
Ellen Maria MESNARD married Calvert Augustus MEAD, my great-great grandfather. She was born on 20 April 1836. (See MEAD and KNAPP families)
Luther Baker MESNARD was born on 31 December 1837, and married his first cousin, Harriet BAKER. He served in the Civil War from 1861 to 1866 in the 55th and 25th Ohio Volunteer Regiments and achieved the rank of Captain. He was a teacher as well as county surveyor of Huron County.
Mary Ann MESNARD was born 10 July 1839 and married John WOOD. Celestia and her twin brother Eri B. MESNARD were born on 27 April 1843. Celestia never married, and her twin Eri B. MESNARD died 19 May 1843.
Eri MESNARD died on 28 January 1879, and Harriet (BAKER) MESNARD died on 26 August 1881. They were buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio.
